Targets
Persevere in order to achieve the best possible photograph. Really scrutinise them through your annotation if they fall short of expectations and make the improvements you identify. Analyse photographers in greater depth: make sure that you cover ALL intentions, context and technique. Make sure that you check your light meter to ensure that the exposure is correct.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
EXPLAIN THE INTENTIONS OF THE TASK. SEPARATE YOUR GBU IMAGES AS IT'S NOT CLEAR WHAT'S WHAT HERE. GIVE YOUR RATIONALE FOR EACH SUB THEME.
The Rule of Thirds
The rule of thirds is when an image is imagined as divided into nine equal parts by two equally spaced horizontal lines and two equally spaced vertical lines. Important compositional elements should be placed along these lines or their intersections. This technique has benefits; if you place points of interest in the intersections or along the lines then your photo becomes more balanced and will enable a viewer of the image to interact with it more naturally.
In these images the points of interest were the straight lines of trees, buildings and people who fall on the lines of intersection or on the corners between them.
Photographer Analysis
Minor White (American, 1908–1976)
Minor White creates mystical images by allowing for rays of sunlight contrasting on dark scenes. He wanted us to consider Zen philosophy which permeated his images. White once said “At first glance a photograph can inform us. At second glance it can reach us.” This is shown by the several layers in these photos. Minor White was interested in this because he wanted to draw attention to something we wouldn't have thought about otherwise. Minor White has used infrared film to increase the contrast of the image and draw attention to the blacks and whites. This helps support the idea about it being mystical.
Darren Almond (English, 1971+)
Darren Almond creates bleak images. He does this by photographing barren landscapes with very neutral colours and tones. Darren Almond mainly photographs at night so he uses very long exposures; this style of photography is called fullmoon photography which is how he gets these almost surreal images with glassy textures.
Thomas Struth (German, 1954+)
Initially Struth was interested in photography as a source for his paintings. In order to learn more about the different possibilities of the medium, he made some experiments photographing passersby in the street with different exposures and compositions. Struth photographed streets all over Düsseldorf, working on weekends and always with the camera placed on a tripod in the middle of the street. It was important to Struth that the photographs were a systematic documentation of ordinary streets in an unremarkable, reconstructed German city rather than the result of personal selection.
Framing
This task was to direct the focus of the image in the frame and to direct the viewer's attention to the subject. The frame creates a square within the photo which otherwise would have the actual frame of the camera.
WWW: The subjects were successfuly framed and the exposure was right.
EBI: I could take more photos next time and find more shapes in the environment.

Abstraction
The intention of this task is to create images that present and focus on small details that would normally be ignored or edited out, but in actual fact they contain enormous artistic inspiration.
These additional photos were taken outside of class and focused on block colours, lines and patterns.
Three Themes
Block Colours
Lines
Patterns
This is a great start to your 3 themes. However, you need to shoot a lot more! Shoot a minimum of 10 image per theme and select the best from each shoot.
Favourite Theme
I have chosen the theme 'lines' to develop further. These photos demonstrate how lines can be found in everyday life and incorporated into most objects and subjects.
WWW: The images successfully incorporated lines.
EBI: However these images were very monotone and were all taken in school. For a better set of images, a more urban city setting could offer more shots.

Collin Winterbottom
Colin Winterbottom is an American photographer born around 1970. He now lives in Washington DC, where most of his photos are taken. Colin Winterbottom specialises in close up photography, mainly to do with buildings and cities. He does this by either zooming in or moving up close to the subject. Through viewing his work I have learnt that no matter how abstract or odd the idea is, it can still result in a well constructed photograph. I like his photographs as the symmetry and his different angles are very interesting and you can pick up many photography tips by just looking at his work.
These images include several formal elements that enhance the image and make it more interesting for the viewer. For example, the bottom two images use a lot of line and contrast which bring out the symmetry and layers in the photo. In the top two images, close up abstraction is used to reveal the texture in these images.
